Nearly three decades in the sports industry
I have been involved in the sports industry since 1993 gaining several qualifications including a Personal Trainer Diploma, Sports Massage Certificate from IIST and a distinction in a Fitness & Exercise Diploma.
Sports Massage Therapist for Leicester Tigers
Whilst at University in 1995, I started a work placement with the strength and conditioning team at Leicester Tigers Rugby Club where I completed a dissertation about the importance of fluid uptake. I was also appointed as the senior squad Sports Massage Therapist, continuing work after graduating with a first class honours degree in Sport Studies in 1998. I then went onto lecturing sport, exercise and fitness at Loughborough and then Leicester College, where I graduated with a PGCE at Nottingham Trent University, whilst continuing as a massage therapist and personal trainer. My passion for sport has grown even stronger and this has led me to teaching PE in a private school.
Relocated to Cornwall
In 2011, my family and I relocated to Cornwall. As massage and rugby have always been passions of mine, I offered my services as a sports massage therapist at the Cornish Pirates Rugby Club season 2016/2017.
Professional Diploma in Remedial and Clinical Advanced Sports Massage (Soft Tissue Therapy)
In 2016, I gained one of the highest qualifications in the massage therapy industry and the future of massage training in this country, a BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Remedial and Clinical Advanced Sports Massage (renamed Soft Tissue Therapy)
I've always been motivated to be the best in my field and wanted an edge over other therapists offering massage. I undertook a mentorship with the current England Rugby League Head physio and consultant to England Rugby Union physio department, David O'Sullivan at his practice in Huddersfield.
3 Years of Additional Training with a Unique System
David had devised a step by step system with his athletes including unique hands on techniques which ensured they were out of pain and back on the field quickly and safely and with confidence. He then brought that system into the private practice and realised the success with the general public.
I spent nearly 3 years with David and his team, learning and implementing this system including fine tuning my practical skills and gaining knowledge how to assess the body through movement and muscle co-ordination tests. This determines the root cause of the problem so we are not merely chasing the pain. I then provide exercises bespoke for the clients problem and goals.
Since 2017, I have been fully concentrating on my own business, building up a client base from across West Cornwall and beyond.
